Belly Putter
Buying a set of golf clubs is not as easy at it seems. There is a lot to making sure that you get a set of clubs that actually will fit you and allow you to improve your game. You can buy clubs right off the rack (which is something that I would not recommend), you could have them fitted (which is a better way for sure). But what do you know about how the clubs should be fitted for you? What grips do you need, how big should the grips be? What kind of putter, what about the loft of the clubs? These are just a few questions that you must know the answers to.
So when you are ready to go to the store and get some clubs, have these questions with you. This will make sure that when you get your new set of clubs you are going to be happy with them.
There are many questions, but here some questions that you must ask before buying clubs.
Do you have a club fitting program?
You want to ask your local PGA pro and see if they have a club fitting program. If he does not himself, he will be able to send you to someone who does. After you have started this game and you have found that you like it enough to continue, choosing the right equipment is going to be the biggest decision and biggest investment you make. Check with your PGA professional.
How much does the club fitting cost?
Don’t be shy about asking this question. Club fitting can be quite expensive. You need to be the judge on how much you want to spend on this.
How long do the shafts in my clubs need to be?
Golfers come in all shapes and sizes. Some are tall with short arms, some are short with long arms. Each golfer has a different posture when bending over to address the golf ball and they all need different length of shafts to match this posture. This is where a PGA pro can come in handy. They are experienced at answering these questions and can make club fitting very easy.
What type of irons do you need – investment cast, forged, over sized or cavity-back?
The best thing I can tell you to do with this is to get investment-cast, cavity-backed, over-sized golf clubs. For a beginner this is the best choice. Trust me, I don’t have enough room here to explain all the reason’s. These clubs are more forgiving than the other types mentioned.
What lie-angle do I need on my new clubs?
There is a general rule for this. The closer that you stand to the ball, the more upright you need your clubs to be. As you address the ball farther away, then the lie angle of the clubs need to become flatter.
What is the correct grip size for me?
Obviously the bigger your hands the bigger the grips you need. If you slice the ball, try a smaller grip to allow your hands to work faster. If on the other hand you tend to hook the ball, try to get the grips bigger, this will slow down your hands and allow you to beat the hook.
What kind of material for my grips – leather, cord, all rubber, half rubber?
There are many different materials that can make up a golf grip. Leather is by far the most expensive and is also the hardest to maintain. It really is for the accomplished player not for the beginner. If you are just starting, stick to an all rubber grip, and make sure that you change your grips each year if you play once a week. Some people like a combination of rubber and cord. This is good for weather where your hands can become slippery. But remember the cords can be rough on the hands.
What material for my shafts – boron, titanium or graphite or steel?
Steel shafts are the cheapest, all of the other shafts can become quite expensive. So remember this if you are on a budget. Try to test out some of these other materials and see how they feel compared to steel. Remember that most tour players today still play with steel shafts, maybe except in their metal woods they would use graphite or another exotic material.
What is the right putter for me – center-shafted, or end-shafted? What about a mallet putter, belly putter or long putter?
Over the last few years the putter industry has exploded with all new equipment. You can try these different putters out at the course where you play. Just ask the pro to try them on the practice putting green. If you have a friend that has a putter you like, ask he/she if you could try it out, I am sure they would let you.
If you want new clubs, see if you can try them out?
Most of the time, when someone is trying to make a sale, they will give you all the opportunity to try them out. Golf pro’s are not any different. Most of the time they will let you try them or they will have a demo set for you to try. If you don’t ask, you will never know.
So there are some questions that you should always ask when you are thinking about buying new golf clubs. If you think about it, they all make sense and are easy to remember.

yes they do. the shaft is the same diameter. tou have come up with a very good original thought. using the longer grip will help using putter from off the green. also for sand lob wedge. longer grip will make half shots much easier. on the wedges use round grips. it does work. you will find that you can use full putter grip length for longer putts. choke down a touch short putting will improve. very well thought out. well done. your scores will drop. full marks .
