Excerpt: Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park is characterised by volcanic rock formations – lava flows, volcanic domes, volcanic calderas. The park joined UNESCO’s Global Geoparks Network in 2006, and is also a member of the European Geoparks Network. Between the village of San Miguel and the Cabo de Gata point are salt flats (Las Salinas de Cabo de Gata) separated from the sea by a 400 m (0.24 mi) sand bar. The salt flats are a Ramsar site. Its coasts have seagrass beds of the Posidonia genus and offshore coral reefs, both dramatically increasing the numbers of resident and transient marine species. 120 km² of the total designated protected area are a Marine reserve, extending underwater to a depth of 60 metres (197 ft). Volcanic rock-formations at Playa de MónsulThe area is semi-arid, the average temperature is 18 °C and it has the lowest rainfall in the Iberian peninsula and the whole Europe, its average precipitation being a mere 120 to 180 mm (4.72 to 7.09 in) annually. The characteristic vegetation in the terrestrial zone is matorral, an abundance of drought-adapted flora: low-growing vegetation, dwarf fan palms and a number of xerophytes (some of which are endemic). There is Posidonia seagrass in the marine zone. Originally due to the harsh conditions for agriculture and its isolated location, habitation has been historically sparse, which has kept the area relatively virgin, something rather unlikely in the Spanish costa. 3,500 people were recorded as living within the boundaries

Freshwater eels can share their aquarium with other fish that are the same size or larger, but do not get along with other eels. Due to their size, eels require a long or large aquarium. Minimum aquarium size should be 29 gallons, but preferably 55 gallons or more. A good rule of thumb is one gallon of water for every one inch of full-grown fish. These fish prefer fine gravel or sand substrate on the bottom of the aquarium, as eels often burrow into the sand. They are predominantly secretive rock dwellers in nature so be sure your aquarium has plenty of hiding places such as large stones and rockwork. Since eels love to dig, use potted live plants to prevent uprooting. More information Visit our Fish Care Center to find products, care information and bright ideas to enhance your underwater world. Excerpt: The Ethiopian xeric grasslands and shrublands ecoregion is a semi-desert strip on or near the Red Sea and the Gulf of Oman coasts in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia. Semidesert grassland and shrubland covers an area mainly from sea level to 800 m inland from the coast of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Oman along the coast of Eritrea, south through Ethiopia and Djibouti and a narrow strip along coast of the Somaliland region of Somalia. The ecoregion includes a number of islands such as the Dahlak Archipelago, offshore from the Eritrean port of Massawa, and inland some higher hills, and in the south the desolate Afar Depression, location of the ghost town made of salt, Dallol. The ecoregion is vulnerable to earthquakes and includes a number of active volcanoes. The area is hot and dry with little rainfall, especially near the coast, temperatures range from 21 to 30 degrees Celsius (70 to 85 °F). The strip of coast in southern Eritrea and northern Djibouti has been separated out as the Eritrean coastal desert, especially as it is the site of a large migration of birds of prey. The plantlife of the region needs more study, which has been hampered by longterm political strife in the region. Endemic flora includes a dragon tree (Dracaena ombet). Mammals found here include the last Somali Wild Ass (Equus africanus somalicus) to be found in the wild, on the Buri Peninsula of Eritrea. Other grazing animals include Beira, Dorcas gazelle, Soemmerring’s Gazelle, gerenuk and the Beisa oryx. The only purely endemic mammal is a gerbil Gerbillus acticola. There are a number of dry habitat reptiles including the endemic geckos, Arnold’s leaf-toed gecko (Hemidactylus arnoldi) and the Somalian Northern Sand Gecko (Tropiocolotes tripolitanus somalicus). … More:

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Prince Edward Island (PEI or P.E.I.; French: , Scottish Gaelic: Eilean a’ Phrionnsa) is a Canadian province consisting of an island of the same name, as well as other islands. The maritime province is the smallest in the nation in both land area and population (excluding the territories). The island has a few other names: “Garden of the Gulf” referring to the pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands throughout the province; and “Birthplace of Confederation”, referring to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864. According to the 2009 estimates, Prince Edward Island has 141,000 residents. It is located in a rectangle defined roughly by 46°-47°N, and 62°-64°30′W and at 5,683.91 km (2,194.57 sq mi) in size, it is the 104th largest island in the world, and Canada’s 23rd largest island. The island was named for Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn (1767-1820), the fourth son of King George III and the father of Queen Victoria. Prince Edward Island is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence west of Cape Breton Island, north of the Nova Scotia peninsula, and east of New Brunswick. Its southern shore bounds the Northumberland Strait. The island has two urban areas. The largest surrounds Charlottetown Harbour, situated centrally on the island’s southern shore, and consists of the capital city Charlottetown, and suburban towns Cornwall and Stratford and a developing urban fringe. A much smaller urban area surrounds Summerside Harbour, situated on the southern shore 40 km (25 mi) west of Charlottetown Harbour, and consists primarily of the city of Summerside. As with all natural harbours on the island, Charlottetown and Summerside harbours are created by rias. Excerpt: Anagama kiln 1 Door about 75 centimetres (30 in) wide 2 Firebox 3 Stacking floor made of silica sand 4 Dampers 5 Flue 6 Chimney 7 Refractory arch The anagama kiln (Japanese: ) is an ancient type of pottery kiln brought to Japan from China via Korea in the 5th century. An anagama (a Japanese term meaning “cave kiln “) consists of a firing chamber with a firebox at one end and a flue at the other. Although the term “firebox” is used to describe the space for the fire, there is no physical structure separating the stoking space from the pottery space. The term anagama describes single-chamber kilns built in a sloping tunnel shape. In fact, ancient kilns were sometimes built by digging tunnels into banks of clay. The anagama is fueled with firewood, in contrast to the electric or gas-fueled kilns commonly used by most contemporary potters . A continuous supply of fuel is needed for firing, as wood thrown into the hot kiln is consumed very rapidly. Stoking occurs round the clock until a variety of variables are achieved including the way the molten pots look inside the kiln, the temperatures reached and sustained, the amount of ash applied, the wetness of the walls and the pots, etc. John Balistreri ‘s Anagama kiln under construction in Denver , Colorado Denver Anagama being fired Burning wood not only produces heat of up to 2,500 °F (1400 °C), it also produces fly ash and volatile salts. Wood ash settles on the pieces during the firing, and the complex interaction between flame, ash, and the minerals of the clay body forms a natural ash glaze. This glaze may show great

Excerpt: The Anahulu River (also called Anahulu Stream ) is the longest watercourse on the island of O’ahu in the U.S. state of Hawai’i . It is approximately 12 mi (20 km) long,Description It is formed on the western side of the northern Koolau Range approximately 7 mi (12 km) northeast of Wahiaw by the confluence of Kawainui and Kawai’iki streams, both perennial. It flows WNW descending through Kawailoa Gulch, then empties into the eastern end of Waialua Bay at Hale’iwa . It encompasses a watershed of approximately 16 sq mi (40 km²) and a 100-year peak discharge of 16,200 ft /s (459 m³/s).Archaeological evidence indicates that the valley of the river near its mouth was the site of ancient Hawaiian villages. The river valley was abandoned but was later repopulated in the early 19th century, partly as the result of a policy by King Kamehameha I to grow food to support his military expeditions. The policy included the development of irrigated terraces. In 1832 U.S. Protestant missionaries John Emerson and his wife Ursula Sophia circumnavigated Oahu and put in at the mouth of the river, located at 21°3540N 158°615W / 21.59444°N 158.10417°W / 21.59444; -158.10417Coordinates : 21°3540N 158°615W / 21.59444°N 158.10417°W / 21.59444; -158.10417. Sailing holidays Aeolian is full of fun! The beautiful holiday in sailing yacht is equipped with everything an owner wants in his speedboat.

why are my hermit crabs burying in the sand? the temp in the tank is 74-76 deg. and the humidity is 78%.?

they are under for weeks at a time without surfacing and they are not molting. we just discovered one today that was dead and limbs were tore off.

It’s a crab. That’s what they do for protection.

PS – If you found one dead with missing limbs, they are obviously doing some fighting in there. Hermit Crabs will fight each other over a female or over territory…to the death. Might want to think about seperating them. No wonder he was burying himself. Trying to get away from a bully!!
