The crown is a dark shiny black with nothing but a small TaylorMade logo as an alignment aid. This is definitely a return to the classic look for TaylorMade as the crowns on their 2008 Burner line had more graphics and lines on them than a set of high rise blueprints.

What are the standard degrees of loft for drivers and fairway woods?
I’ve just taken up golf. I’m confused by the degrees of loft on the drivers and woods I have. Can some 3woods have the same loft as a 5wood? My mate has a utility club which has the same loft as my 5wood?

Traditionally, a driver (or 1-wood) has had very low loft, 8-11 degrees. More recently, research has shown that modern golf balls fly further with a higher loft, and 12 degrees has become more widely available (though 10.5 degrees is still the nearest thing to “standard”). Some slow swingers have even moved to 13-15 degree drivers.
Traditionally a 3-wood is 15 degrees or thereabouts, slightly lower on a “strong 3″ or “3+”. Therefore some people with higher-lofted drivers now tend to play a 4-wood (about 17 deg) instead. 5-woods tend to be around 18* or 19*. Then 7-woods can be from 20* to 23* (I don’t know where that leaves 6-woods, but then I’ve never seen one!). I have heard of 9 and even 11-woods, but that’s getting a bit silly!
Hybrids are a different beast altogether. They have smaller heads and shorter shafts, and the lowest loft typically available is about 16* – almost what was once known as a “driving iron” – and they range right up to 30*+, though most golfers have one or two in the range 18-25 degrees.
