Edge Golf
I am finishing up a 2-week stay in Sedona. This is at least my fifth visit to Sedona. Since I plan on coming back often, I’m just going to quit counting how many times I’ve been here. I own points with Diamond Resorts and, for the second time, have used my points in Sedona, this time at the Sedona Ridge.
I was reluctant to spend my vacation at Sedona Ridge Golf Resort because I’m not a golfer and have no interest in golfing. I can certainly tell you that the golf course next door looks beautiful. I was hoping to use the sidewalks around it as a place to get some exercise. For some reason the owners of the golf course don’t allow that. They are concerned about someone getting hit by a stray golf ball. My dad lives in one of those golf communities on the edge of a course. He and my step-mom have a bucket where they put the balls that come into their yard… one which crashed through a window. Duffers abound so the rules of the golf course are valid.
My friend and I stayed in a 1-bedroom lock-off. This means that if we had used the room next door, we would have had a 2-bedroom apartment. We had a full kitchen, with very nice cookware. The room next door is like a little efficiency. Since it is connected to the 1-bedroom by a door, sound travels easily. My friend, who slept on the sleeper in the living room, said she could hear the voices clearly and finally resorted to ear plugs. By the way, she found the sleeper sofa comfortable.
As to amenities, there was an outdated dual cassette with CD player. It worked fine for the CDs. In the bedroom there is an iPod clock like I have at home. My iPod enjoyed its stay there. The televisions receive numerous channels although the televisions were the “regular” variety and not flat screen. I understand they are currently upgrading the televisions.
The resort does have wireless which you don’t have to pay for if you are an AT&T wireless customer… which I am. If you’re not, then you can pay for service or go down to the office where there have a couple of computers you can use for 15 minutes at a time for no charge.
If you need something from housekeeping, do not use the “housekeeping” button on your phone. I left a message and never had a return call. After about 6 hours I did call the front desk and what I needed, an extra blanket, was at my door within 10 minutes.
When you check in, you will be pressured to go to one of their time share presentations. I’m an owner with Diamond Resorts and attended the “Owner’s Update” which we all know contains both information and a sales presentation. If you don’t want to buy, and you don’t have the strength to withstand the very well prepared sales presentation with all the emotional trigger sales techniques, the extra premium is not worth it. Spend your time, more than 90 minutes, doing something else.
The concierge gave me a wide range of information on available activities. She also presented me with a set of 10% off coupons for various places to eat.
My friend and I had a delightful stay. I plan on being back.

Which sport requires more strength and endurance, tennis or golf?
Having just watched the Wimbledon Championships, I can tell tennis players are pretty fit. That said, Professional Golfers have to walk an entire Golf Course (18 holes) with the assistance of only 1 caddie. Therefore, I give the slight edge to Golfers in terms of athleticism. What do you guys think?
Ha ha. I say golf, because you need endurance to overcome the intense boredom. You also need lots of endurance to watch it on TV.
