Physics Question (center of gravity):?
A golfer wishes to know where the center of gravity of his putter face is. He can find out by holding his putter face horizontal and bouncing a golf ball on the face of the putter, which is held loosely in his other hand. How does he know when he is bouncing the ball off the Center of Gravity?
Offhand, I’d say that you can’t just by bouncing the ball against it.
Because any bounce off the face of putter is going to be oriented by the physical face of the putter, which has no bearing upon the actual center of gravity.
I cannot see how the ball bouncing off the putter face would determine center of gravity. Center of gravity would more be found by hanging putter in open hand, letting handle hang down as it normall would, then balance club with couple fingers on club face. Adjust club so that it will eventually balance easily. That shows center of gravity of the whole club, obviously including the whole handle.
But I”m sure you’re referring to merely the club face.
I still can’t see how bouncing the ball off the clubface would show the club face’s center of gravity, because each time the ball bounces off the face, it’s travel and distance depends upon where the club face is oriented and the strength of the bounce.
But then I’m not a physicist, so maybe there’s something I’m missing.
