3 Simple Tips to Stop Hitting Fat Golf Shots

A fat shot occurs when the club hits the ground before making contact with the ball, digging up dirt and grass and causing a major loss in distance. It is not uncommon for golf beginners to hit fat golf shots, causing dissatisfaction, lack of confidence and discouragement. So do not get disappointed if you end up hitting a fat golf shot, there are many other beginners out there who do this quite a bit as well.

Fat shots can be cured and here are 3 simple ways to stop hitting fat shots.

Prior to making your golf shot, develop a pre-shot routine to get a proper alignment on how to hit a straight golf shot. Establishing the proper distance from the ball is easy if your arms are on the same plane as the shaft at setup. After practicing a few golf swings, you will be able to see the relationship between your feet and the line and then you can determine your stance and avoid fat shots.

Keeping your balance is another important golf tip to consider when curing fat golf shots. It is important to keep yourself in a stable position when you are about to hit the golf ball. Just before you perform the golf swing, see if there is any problem keeping your balance. If there is, you need to keep shifting until you find a comfortable position where you can make a perfect golf swing.

Also, ensure that you keep your front shoulder ‘down’ on the golf ball to maintain the swing on the right plane. Besides, it will also help keep your hands in line with your make your body go before your hands thereby causing fat shots.
