I would go for the hybrid because it will be a very versatile club – I used to have a 5 wood until I hit a Nickent Hybrid 2 iron 17* and that 5 wood is now in my garage – the feel is great, and it really gets the ball in the air – I can hit it about 230 yards and I will tee off with it on the shorter Par 4′s (380 yards or less with tight fairway) – instead of using my putter from the fringe or just off of the fringe, I use the 2 iron with a putter grip and it’s much easier to judge than trying to putt the ball through the fringe – also, from the rough, it is easier to get the club through without the face closing or being manipulated by the grass – it’s hard to control the 5 wood out of the rough – go hit a few hybrids (Ping, Nickent, Cobra, TaylorMade) and see which feels the best for you – I have a Nickent Hybrid 2 iron 17* and a Bobby Jones Hybrid 3 iron 21* and it would be tough for me to try to be without either one – give it a go, it will be an important club in your bag and you will find a lot of ways to use it – good luck
