Green fees, golf equipment and even practicing your golf swing. All of these golf related areas can add up to big dollars but they don’t have to if you follow these tips.
Green fees:
An easy way to minimize the hit to your pocket book is to play twilight rounds which can be as much as half the price. The golf course can often be a lot quieter during twilight hours so you can often get a round in quicker than you think. You could also sneak in a few extra holes to get more bang for your buck.
Another option to lower your green fee cost is to split a coupon book with a buddy. For $50 you can a lot of 2 for 1 coupons that will pay for themselves in only a few rounds. By the end of the season you will normally save a bundle.
An additional way to save a few dollars on your green fees is to play municipal courses. The cost is usually very reasonable and yet the courses are often well kept. The only problem here is that you may need to be patient as the rounds could take a bit longer than the standard but beggers can’t be choosers.
A final way to minimize the damage when looking for a play to golf is to travel a little bit out of the way. Driving an extra 20 minutes can often save you a bundle unless you are already living close to one of those bargain courses.
Golf equipment:
Golf equipment is an area where you can spend a fortune but like the old saying goes, it not the arrow that makes the biggest impact, it’s the Indian. This basically means that if you get reasonable quality equipment, the onus will be on you to play the game.
There are some easy ways to save in this area. First of all I would suggest that you do not purchase the big brand name clubs since they are often much more expensive. A lesser name brand such as Wilson or Dunlop offer some quality sets of clubs and for about $300 you can get PW to 3 iron and even your Driver, 3 Wood and 5 Woods.
If it is new clubs you are after, another way you can minimize your cost is to purchase the knock off brands which more or less copy the look and style of some of the big brand names again for only a fraction of the cost.
If you are not opposed to used equipment, getting a used set of clubs off a provider such as ebay can be very economical. You can often find a set of the big brand name clubs for a very reasonable price and they don’t even need to be that old. A new set of grips will go a long way to making those clubs feel like they were always yours.
Another great way to pay less for slightly used clubs is to buy some of the demo models at your local pro shop at the end of a season. These clubs normally won’t have that much wear and tear however they are only worth a fraction of their retail price since they are now one year old and are used.
If it is golf balls you need, I would suggest three main things to keep costs down. Only buy golf balls when they go on sale for one. There is no need to pay full price when the ball really only makes a marginal difference unless you are a really good golfer.
Buy used balls online. You can normally get even the best name brands for about half the price or less if someone has found them, put together some sets and are reselling them.
Lastly you could always go find your own. When I was a kid we would always go golf ball hunting by walking the streams running through the courses. Often we would find around a hundred balls in less than a few hours with most of them being playable and some being the more expensive brands.
Golf Practice:
A lot of the time you can find a way to practice without spending a penny. At your local golf club, often the range balls are including the cost of the round and the putting and chipping greens are free. Even if you are not paying for a round, you can sometimes go hit balls on their range if you wear proper golf attire and just go about your business.
Another great way to practice for free is to do some chipping in your backyard. Hitting chips of ten to twenty yards can only help your game and if you put a bucket or something down to provide a target, you can really improve your technique.
So in summary, golf is going to cost you some money but if you are creative you can really keep costs down.

Ping i10 irons? HELP!!!!!!!?
i have a shot of a ping i10 demo iron from my local pro shop and i am hitting it really well with a controlled draw but im not sure about the lie angle for it. Its got a white dot on the end of the shaft…. does anyone know what this means?
The colour of the dot gives the lie angle or the angle between the shaft and the base of the club head. Ping are THE best clubs I have ever found but I strongly recommend a session at Ping or with an approved Ping dealer to get the clubs best suited for you. There is no charge for this, other than the cost of the clubs.
