Excerpt: The Poor Law Amendment Act 1834 sometimes abbreviated to PLAA was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom passed by the Whig government of Lord Melbourne that reformed the country’s poverty relief system. It was an Amendment Act that completely replaced earlier legislation based on the Poor Law of 1601. With reference to this earlier Act the 1834 Act is also known as the New Poor Law. The Amendment Act was called for after an investigation by the 1832 Royal Commission into the Operation of the Poor Laws which included Edwin Chadwick, George Nicholls, John Bird Sumner and Nassau William Senior. The Act has been described as “the classic example of the fundamental Whig-Benthamite reforming legislation of the period”, based on three main doctrines: Malthus’s principle that population increased faster than resources unless checked, Ricardo’s “iron law of wages” and Bentham’s doctrine that people did what was pleasant, and would tend to claim relief rather than working. The Amendment Act came two years after the 1832 Reform Act had extended the franchise to the middle-classes. Some historians have argued that this was a major factor in the PLAA being passed. The Royal Commission’s findings, which had most probably been predetermined, were that the old system was badly and expensively run. The Commission’s recommendations were based on two principles. The first was less eligibility – conditions within workhouses should be made worse than the worst conditions outside of the workhouse so that workhouses served as a deterrent – only the most needy would consider entering them .The other was the “workhouse test”, that relief should only be available in the workhouse. Bill Humble $59 William Humble MBE 14 April 1911 – 1 March 1992 was a well-known pre-Second World War aviator, known as an air racer and for his aerobatic displays, he was also an officer in the Royal Air Force Special Reserve, and the Auxiliary Air Force. Although he qualified as a mining engineer the lure of flying proved too strong, and he did not enter the family mining company. During the war he became an important test pilot for aircraft manufacturer Hawker Siddeley. Having tested some of the early jet aircraft, he retired from test flying in 1948, becoming a sales executive for Hawker. He was the grandfather of British television presenter, Kate Humble.Humble was born on 14 April 1911, the son of William Humble senior, a mining engineer and mine owner in the South Yorkshire coalfield, and also associated with the Staveley Coal and Iron Company. An iron bed has a lot of character in it, even when it is simply made. Many times, they are beautifully created by hand or other times they are designed with intricate details that are done through excellent craftsmanship. If you are considering the purchase of an iron bed, or you already have one, decorating the bedroom around it may pose difficult. Since most pieces of furniture are made for wood, they don’t easily match the bed’s iron work. Yet, you can create a stunning, beautiful and very modern looking room with an iron bed and all of the accessories you need in your bedroom. You just have to think creatively.
Selecting The Right Bed
The first thing that you should be doing is selecting the right iron bed for your room. If you enjoy the twisted look of black iron, then there are still many options for you to consider on the market. If you have the ability, take the time to look for handmade iron works, as these provide details and elegance that you simply can not get from mass manufactured products. Although there are many possible choices available to you, you should consider several, looking at the details to find one that truly feels wonderful.
Decorating The Room
In order to decorate the room behind what you’ve selected in the bed, you should consider the designs that inspire you. Take a look at the web for ideas. Search for contemporary, ultra modern, traditional, old world and even early American for design theme for a bedroom. Find the one that suits you the best. You may like the look of one, but it may not work for both you and your partner. Take the time to select one that works for both of you, so you both can enjoy the luxury that your bed will afford you.
Here are some great ideas for a decorating plan around an iron bed.
o Select the color of white. Drape your windows in long, sheer curtains that are flowing. Match this color and style to your bed by using bedding that is flowing, long and white. Decorate with additional tapestries in the room. Using light colored furniture is a must.
o Design around the other elements in the room. For example, to match your bed, use a high quality black painted wooden dresser. Use iron knobs and fixtures on it, with a large mirror. Decorate the room with white or red pieces of draperies, bedding and even the wall color.
o Select a white iron bed. Here, drape floral colored patterns over the bed, soft and with a white background. Use a floral matching drapery, soft plush carpeting and antiqued furniture that is distressed to look amazingly authentic. Use gold as your accent color in this room.
Decorating your bed room doesn’t have to be difficult when you use a bit of thought and a lot of the ideas you find online. When you have iron beds in your home, don’t think about how they don’t match and rather look at how you can make it match and work.

For my senior portrait should I get my hair straightened or leave it natural which is wavy/curly??

natural definitely. i mean senior portrait you want to remember yourself as who you were naturally. or if you wanted to reflect your four years you could think which one was more you. but really, keep it natural.
