 ...Nothing Major

…Nothing Major

$1.02

Bob Cayne co-hosted “Talking Golf” a weekly radio show with Cleveland golf writer George Sweda. At first, it was impossible to promote the show without overselling it. So they didn’t. They opted for promos like: “Hi, this is Jack Nicklaus. I’ve won my share of majors and I have to tell you, ‘Talking Golf’ with George Sweda and Bob Cayne is nothing major.”Jack and Arnold, Gary, Fuzzy and Nancy (the generation that spiked the game’s popularity) and dozens of others chipped in. Their engaging personalities and favorite golf stories became the nucleus for this book. Bob has taken it several steps further with interviews, essays and the ability to laugh at himself. That’s just the beginning of the story. Bob could tell you about the day Gary Player rode on the back of a hippie’s Harley trying to make a starting time. But wouldn’t you rather buy the book? With a title like ‘…Nothing Major,’ can you be disappointed?”

Jack Nicklaus
Jack Nicklaus

Jack Nicklaus the Golden Bear

Jack William Nicklaus Aka as The Golden Bear is regarded as the greatest professional golfer of all time. Born in Columbus Ohio January 21, 1940, his career spans over a 25 year period with an accumulated record 18 professional majors in the PGA Tour and 8 Champion Tour- a record that still stand to date.

Nicklaus began his professional career in 1962, defeating the favored Arnold Palmer. In 1963 Nicklaus won The Masters and the PGA Championship to include three Tournament of Champions.  In 1965 and 1966 he became the first golfer to win the Masters event consecutively.  He set a tournament record of 271 for The Masters in 1965, only to be succeeded by Tiger Woods.  In 1965 Jack Nicklaus was the youngest player to win the British Open in Scotland, where his success included all four major championships known as the Career Slam. In 1987 he won all four majors a total of three times (a triple career slam).

In 1975, Nicklaus won the Doral-Eastern Open his fifth Masters win and the PGA Championship for the fourth time. Due to this incredible performance in 1975, he was named PGA Player of The Year and ABC’s Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year.

Jack Nicklaus has an unusual playing style, a combination of being one of the best putters and longest hitters of all time. He made popular a ball flight style which was named “power fade”.  He managed the course extremely well and was a very conservative player. Known for eating bananas on the golf course to give him the energy needed, Nicklaus was a conservative golfer rather than aggressive player on the course.

Nicklaus has written several books including; The Greatest Game of All in 1969, Golf My Way in 1974, On and Off The Fairway in 1978, Play Better Golf: The Short Game and Scoring in 1987, Play Better Golf: Short Cuts to Lower Scores in 1990, My Story I 1997, Jack Nicklaus’ Lesson Tee in 1998, Nicklaus By Design in 2002, Memories and Mementos from Golf’s Golden Bear in 2007 and Golf and Life in 2007.
