Memorial Tournament $91.2 Used – The Memorial Tournament is a PGA Tour golf tournament which is closely associated with Jack Nicklaus. It is played on a Nicklaus-designed course at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Nicklaus’ home town of Columbus. The golf course passes through a large neighborhood called Muirfield Village. There is a statue of Jack Nicklaus teaching a young child how to golf along Muirfield Drive.

It’s All Good at The Home of Golf

It is a well established fact that golf was invented in Scotland on the undulating hills of Bruntsfield links in the south of Edinburgh. OK so maybe it’s not 100% certain, but the first recorded mention of golf was in 1457 when King James II banned it so that people would concentrate on their archery practice. Anyway, it has a home, and over the years some of the best golf courses in the world have sprung up across the glorious Scottish countryside. Here are the best ones:

Old Course at St Andrews

Some say this was where golf was first played, by shepherds knocking stones in to rabbit holes with their crooks, but the fact is that St Andrews is now known as the ‘home of golf’. This is due to the fact that it has the oldest golf course in the world. The old course is where the standard 18 holes for golf courses was established. Originally the old course had 12 holes which were cut and added to until they eventually settled on 18.

Gleneagles

Situated in around the luxury Gleneagles Hotel in Perth and Kinross, the golf courses at Gleneagles are all world class. There is the King’s and Queen’s courses which are both excellent, then there is the PGA Centenary Course which was designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus and will host the 2014 Ryder Cup.

Carnoustie

There are three top class courses at Carnoustie. The trickiest of the lot being the Championship course which has been the venue for many high profile golfing events in Scotland over the years including the Open Championship. Carnoustie is a stunning location for any keen golfer to try their hand at a professional level course.

Turnberry

Located on the wind battered west coast of Scotland in Ayrshire is Turnberry, a course with a rich history of Championship golf and great golfing battles by some of the world’s top golf professionals. Golf holidays UK residents enjoy most often include a trip to this soggy town. Colin Montgomerie, one of the Scotland’s best loved golfers, actually has a golf academy there. Any golf breaks Scotland can offer you should include a trip to Turnberry.

East Lothian Links

Links golf fittingly originated in Scotland too. The links courses of East Lothian are a particular highlight of any golf enthusiasts visit to Scotland. With so many top class golf courses within a few miles of each other you may decide never to leave. Starting in Musselburgh, you can work your way along the coast playing Muirfield, Gullane, North Berwick and Dunbar, then play all the way back again on completely different courses.
