Afternoons with Mr. Hogan $0.01 Ben Hogan’s former ball shagger recounts firsthand stories of the golf legend—and reveals, for the first time, Hogan’s Swing Secret, a source of mystery to golfers for more than fifty years. Ben Hogan’s pro golf record is legendary. A four-time PGA Player of the Year, he celebrated sixty-three tournament wins and became known as a man of few words and fewer close friends. Most of what we know about Hogan has been based on myth and speculation. Until now. In the 1960s, though Hogan’s competitive career was over, he kept the practice habits that made him famous and remade modern competitive golf. He hired seventeen-year-old Jody Vasquez to help. Each day, after driving to a remote part of the course at Shady Oaks Country Club, Hogan would spend hours hitting balls and Vasquez would retrieve them. There, and over the course of their twenty-year friendship, Hogan taught Jody the mechanics of his famous swing and shared his thoughts on playing, practicing, and course management—unknowingly revealing much about his character, values, and beliefs, and the events that shaped them. In Afternoons with Mr. Hogan, Jody Vasquez shares dozens of stories about Hogan, from the way he practiced, selected his clubs, and interacted with other star players to his little-known humor and generosity. Combining the gentle insight of Tom Kite’s A Fairway to Heaven (which recalls Kite’s golf education under Harvey Penick) with the sage perspective of Penick’s own Little Red Book, Vasquez’s tribute is funny, poignant, and full of advice for golfers of all levels. |

From the Red Tees: Help, Hope, and Humor for the Women on the Green $18.95 In today’s world, it seems that men grow up playing golf. By the time they pass through adolescence, most have learned the rules, etiquette, and terminology of golf through experience. Many women, however, lack the basic knowledge of the game and are short of playing experience on the fairways and greens. But many women today have taken up the game and are playing from the red tees with their husbands, friends, or business associates. For those women who lack experience, getting into the “swing” of golf no longer needs to be scary or stressful. From the Red Tees is the book currently missing from bookstore shelves, pro shops, and golf stores. It is packed with need-to-know tips, basic golf etiquette, the rules of the game, and humorous stories and golf anecdotes. Aspiring golfers will appreciate the wealth of information written for women by a woman who’s been over par and out of bounds on many occasions.By acknowledging the vulnerability, frustration, and humiliation typically felt by those new to the sport, From the Red Tees reminds golfers that insecurities and mistakes are normal and that everyone needs a mulligan now and then. A concise volume for quick reference, it also is small enough to fit into a purse or golf bag for continued confidence while on the links. With From the Red Tees, women no longer need to spend large sums of money on expensive and sometimes intimidating golf lessons. Fun and helpful rather than technical and overwhelming, the book will have even the most novice female golfer driving the fairway and shooting for par. |

Why Do The Golf Lovers Like The Best 2011 Titleist 910F Fairway Wood
2011 Titleist 910F Fairway Wood
Start your golf learning experience by using a practice facility (driving range, putting green, short game area, etc.). That way, even if you feel like you have no idea what you’re doing, or if your behavior is completely inappropriate, at least it’s only practice, right? Most golf courses have some kind of practice facility, and some practice facilities are stand-alone (separate from golf courses). Check your phone book or local sporting goods store to find one near you.
Surprise, surprise.Titleist has launched the new Fairway Wood. The new 2011 Titleist 910F Fairway Wood models have a technologically advanced head design that delivers outstanding performance for straighter, more consistent shots from the turf or tee.
The patented, innovative, dual-angle SureFit Tour (SFT) hosel technology allows you to set loft and lie independently to optimize ball flight – higher or lower, and for more draw or fade – for increased distance and improved shot control while an interchangeable shaft connection and a rear weight screw provide enhanced fitting options. The compact, high performance head with a rich black, PVD and paint finish inspires confidence at address and is acoustically engineered for a hot, solid sound and feel. Additional Features: Grip: Titleist Tour Velvet 360 Rubber Crown Construction: Steel Body Construction: Steel Face Construction: Steel Wrench not included.
<!–[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]–>
<!–[endif]–>
Key Technologies: “SureFit Tour” adjustable hosel lets you adjust loft and lie independently (16 combos). The 910F has a deep CG to launch shots off turf; 910F Fairway Wood is more of a driving club.
OUR TESTERS SAY: Attractive sticks loaded with technology; good cosmetics, acoustics and feel.
PROS
PLAYABILITY: Mid-flight with boring trajectory produces more run-out than others; head cuts through all but the worst rough; 910 F-d is a good option on tighter holes.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Low-spinning head provides acute accuracy on good swings.
DISTANCE: Good results from deep-face 910 F-d off the tee; some guys find the 910F to be sneaky long as well.
FEEL: Sweet sounding, crisp compression on center hits; misses deliver a good deal of feedback, too.
LOOK: Lovely pear-shaped head has rich black finish, white score lines and visual aid on crown that stands out.
CONS
Despite its adjustability feature, a few higher handicappers find some others easier to hit consistently; a handful of guys prefer more “game-improvement” help.

You don’t need any equipment or special clothing, nor do you need a group of people to get started. Every golf course or practice facility I’ve seen in my life has some kind of clubs you can borrow (or rent very cheaply) to give it a try. Also, it’s totally fine to go to the course or driving range by yourself. People do it all the time. If you’re wondering what to wear just make sure it’s comfortable, loose enough to move freely and generally appropriate for public places. Most golf facilities frown on tank tops, cut-offs, etc. and many courses require collared shirts and if you’re wearing shorts that they be a certain length. Use your judgement and see what other people have on. Sneakers or athletic shoes are best for footwear, but certainly make sure your shoes are flat, comfortable and not slippery — heeled shoes (any height), sandals or leather-soled dress shoes are not good.

Please help me with my fairway irons. I am so frustrated?
I can drive like a pro. but im tired of taking 3 shots to worm burn up on the green. When it comes to hitting irons, I know about the more loft the more playing off the back foot, and play the middle for more distance. Its in my form. I get no loft, i either worm burn or hit a scorcher way off right. Im so frustrated. Just once Ide like to hit my irons the way the need to be. Up in the air, distance and on the green. I know my distance and what to use, im just not doing something right. HELPPPPPP
Your best bet is to go and take a lesson from a PGA teaching professional. It may cost you some money but they will be able to tell you what is going on. I am only guessing but I imagine, because you have had such a time with these shots that when you are faced witha long iron shot your mind is going totally negative. Golf is litterally 80% mental. If you stand behind your ball and are telling yourself negative thoughts or even thoughts like ” Don’t hit a worm burner again” your brain will give you just that. You will hear a lot of pros tell you that they will stand behind their ball until they have a clear picture of what they want the ball to do. Then and only then will they address the ball. If you give your brain a clear picture of what you wish to have happen, it will do everything it can to produce the shot. I was never much a believer in “The mental game” until a pro told me to read “Golf is not a Game of Perfect” by Bob Rotella. He is a well known Sports psychologist that works with several professional athletes. I read this book, changed my mental approach to the game, and since have lowered my handicap down into the single digits. One story that he tells that keeps coming to mind is regarding Tom Kite. Tom will make about 2 to 3 bad shots per round. Of course that was not so true at Sahalee where he took a 9 on a par 4 but….When Tom does make a bad shot, instead of getting too down on himself and messing up the rest of the round, he will reply “OK, good only two more to go”……Since then I have read most of Bob’s books…They are an easy read and are full of stories about the pros. You can get the at great prices on Amazon….And again go take a lesson from a pro……That and try to play the ball in the same location relative to your front foot, like say your left ear or the logo on your shirt…and let your back foot come closer to your front narrowing your stance as you play your shorter irons. Take several practive swings and see where you are clicking the grass…This is the bottom of your swing arc and you want the ball to be just slightly behind this spot so that One: your are impacting the ball with a decending motion and not trying to sweep the ball and Two: your divot will begin after the ball is gone..If you hit the ground before the ball then you have grass and turf in between the face of the club and the ball…no good.
Good Luck….
The Fairway Pro
