what’s the difference between sony vegas platinum pro 9 and sony vegas pro 8?

I just went through this. They are basically the same but for a few things. Platinum only allows 4 video tracks. If you need to do titles in Platinum, you can render down all video to one track, then finish your titles on a new project. Pro 8 gives you unlimited tracks, and allows direct from timeline Blu-Ray DVD burning. Pretty cool.

Also Platinum does not allow as many format outputs that Pro 8 does. You are limited to standard multimedia, SD, HD sizes and more. But you can customize in 8.

With Pro 8 you get DVD Architect 5, a great program. Although Platinum has more software with stuff like CD architect and the interesting “Cinescore” music composition app. I don’t have time to learn how to make music. I just buy it.

Bottom line: if you are looking to do a lot of long form editing with graphics and titles, get Pro 8. If you can work with 4 video tracks, Platinum has a lot of things it can do well. Personally I went with Pro 8. But I’m a professional.
