Ping Rapture Fairway Woods for Optimal Launch Review

Ping has introduced their Rapture line, multi-material clubs that allow for manipulation of the center of gravity for optimal launch conditions. Our Ping rep dropped off some of their new product Ping Rapture Fairway Woods for my assistant pros and I to try out so that we could get a full understanding of how they had utilized the multi material designs to improve launch conditions from tee to green.

The Ping Rapture fairway wood is manufactured from 100% titanium and offer exceptional forgiveness. A 6-4 titanium face is machined to produce a thin, highly-responsive face for maximum distance. An internal weight pad positioned directly below the centre of gravity increases the launch angle and reduces spin to produce high, penetrating shot characteristics. The fully-machined face is robotically plasma welded to the body for consistency and durability.

As soon as I got out on the course, I noticed that the ball really jumped off the face of the club. The 14* loft, instead of 15* that most fairway woods have helps increase distance. The higher launch with lower spin helps to give the ball a more penetrating ball flight that fights the wind. I tested a 3 wood and a 5 wood with the VS Proto 85 gram shaft. I liked how the ball flew off of these woods, but did not like the larger profile at address.

The oversized club head was a little distracting and made me feel like I needed to tee it up to hit the ball cleanly. I did like the performance off the tee though, the ball launched like a driver, but had a little lower overall ball flight which makes distance control a little easier. The internal weighting also made Ping Rapture Fairway Woods a nice club to hit when you have to hit the ball straight and in the fairway. The trade off for the long and straight is that you really need to work hard to hit a draw or fade, the internal weighting makes the ball fly straight and corrects slight manipulations in how the club hits the ball.

What golf clubs to get?

I’m a 14 yr old 14 handicapped player and also anm a county player and i need some new clubs. i have been looking at some do you agree?:
-driver-no worries got a good one
-Fairway woods- Taylormade burner
-REscue-taylormade TP/burner or ping g10
-irons ping s57 or rapture v2
-wedges – ping tour w

Im a 16 yr old, 10 handicap
Personally, Id go with a rapture driver (original rapture, not v2) or a tour burner, G10 fairway woods and rescues, then id go S57 irons or maybe a set of titleist AP1s, with cleveland cg12 wedges (52, 56, 60)
and finish it off with a nice little mizuno bettinardi black carbon putter.
