The main difference between steel and graphite shafts is weight. In easy terms, graphite shafts are lighter. On paper, this should allow the club to be swung more speedily, and should therefore lead to longer shots.

Review of Mizuno MX-200 Exsar IS4 Graphite Stiff shaft?
I can’t find any reviews on this particular shaft and was hoping someone out there has purchased and tested these irons. My boyfriend wanted steel stiff and I bought graphite stiff. I read that graphite is more expensive but he is afraid of his past experience of graphite shafts. I figure Mizuno wouldn’t put a cheap shaft on their club, although hearing from someone with experience would be the quickest way to put this to rest.
(He doesn’t want to test them out because the value will go down if he decides to sell them back.)
Hm..Most graphite shafts are a bit longer than steel shafts.The reason is they can preserve some of the swing weight of the lighter clubs. If the swing weight is too light, it will feel like you are swinging a feather, and will not have much swing feel at all to them. Another drawback of this length, is that it makes it harder to hit on-center shots consistently. The longer the clubs get, the harder they are to hit well and consistently. IMHO, it’s very important to go out to try.whatever steel or graphite,just find the fit type.or, Get fit by a professional clubfitter – they can determine exactly what is the best length for your swing, and the best weight (this can be altered) of headweight and shaft weight that will work best for your swing.
