Titanium VS. Tungsten: What Is Best For A Wedding Ring?

This is a fair enough question considering the hefty price tags that come with these rings. Less than a decade ago not many people were aware of titanium jewelry, or that jewelry was even made from tungsten steel for that matter. Both of these metals were closely associated with medicine, aircraft manufacturing and the aerospace industry.

Today the jewelry made from these metals is some of the most sought after in the world. Wedding rings made of these metals are all the rage right now. Times they change so quickly and the differences in these two metals are notable. For weeding rings each has their advantages and disadvantages. Read on to get a comparison of the two when made into wedding rings.

1. Tungsten is very hard and dense, rings made of this metal are a lot heavier than any other metal ring. It takes 6100 degrees of heat to even melt this metal. They are 4x harder the titanium and more resistant to scratching. This is a ring that superman would have a hard time destroying since it has 5x the strength of ordinary steel.

2. Titanium is also a very hard metal but nothing like tungsten steel. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your point of view. Titanium is more ductile. What this is saying is that if you put the same amount of pressure on each ring that represents a slammed car door the titanium ring will bend out of shape whereas a tungsten ring will shatter. The titanium could become embedded into the skin but the tungsten steel will not. This makes it a safer ring to wear.

3. Titanium is one of the most hypoallergenic metals known to man. In its pure form so is tungsten steel. The problem starts when the steel has too much of the elements of cobalt present. This is what a lot of people are allergic too. You have to ask the right questions of the jeweler to get tungsten that has a nickel binding instead of cobalt.

4. Colors have become a major selling point with wedding bands today. With titanium you can change its color by adding certain alloys in specific amounts. The process is called anodization and is used to provide colored patterns onto the rings. Black titanium is a different alloy all together. With tungsten you have two choices the gray or the black. The carbine coating on these rings will neither chip nor peel.

Men’s wedding band metals; tungsten, palladium, gold, or titanium?

i started looking for a wedding band, i like the dark shiny look of the titanium rings a lot but i guess they cant be resized if your ring size changes during your life, which it almost always does. i wasnt a silver looking band and was thinking about an alternative metal rather than white gold because it kinda looks like crap and loses its silver color after a few years. someone told me palladium dents and scratches easily so i was thinking maybe tungesten, does anyone know if that can be resized? if anyone knows of a good, objective buying guide for metals it would be appreciated. most of the guides ive found either sound unobjective or dont include tungsten and titanium
no, there is a metal called palladium. im not getting platium because like the first person said its horribly expensive and its soft so it dents easily and cheaper stuff looks just as good

I dont know too much about different types, but i can tell you that the rhodium plating on the gold that makes it look white can be redone by your jewelery store a couple times a year. It is usually covered in the warranty, so if that’s all you had against it maybe think again?

also, do you mean platinum? If so, I have been told by several jewelers that platinum is not worth it’s price, as it is so much softer than gold and does stracth and dent so easily.
