19th Century Baseball in Chicago, Illinois(Images of Baseball Series) $21.99 The Chicago area today hosts two of the most historic major league franchises and half a dozen minor or independent league teams. Baseball’s roots run deep in the Windy City. Indeed, it was Chicago businessman William “I’d rather be a lamp-post in Chicago than a millionaire in any other city” Hulbert, who, according to baseball lore, staged the coup that in 1876 would put the National League on the map. The Chicago White Stockings (now ironically called the Cubs) were one of eight charter members, winning the inaugural NL Championship with such legendary names as A.G. Spalding, “Cap” Anson, and Roscoe Barnes. But The National Pastime arrived in Chicago well before the 1876 season, as is proven in this fascinating new book, 19th Century Baseball in Chicago, illustrated with over 150 vintage images.Any local fan of the modern game-whether the action takes place at the “Friendly Confines,” 35th & Shields, or the cozy setting of a minor league ballpark out in Kane or suburban Cook County-will enjoy the wealth of information offered in 19th Century Baseball in Chicago. |

Chicopee $21.99 The original meaning of Chicopee is place where water rushes. In 1823, Jonathan Dwight purchased the water privilege at Skenungonuck Falls in Chicopee. Five years later, the textile mill had fourteen thousand spindles and nearly five hundred looms, making it the second-largest operation in Massachusetts. By 1831, there were two giant dams, two waterpower canals, and two manufacturing communities on the Chicopee River. During the next one-hundred years, eight Chicopee River companies gained product recognition around the globe: Ames, Belcher, Lamb, Dwight, Stevens, Spalding, Fisk, and Duryea. These vintage postcards illustrate the significant role that manufacturing played in the day-to-day life of this blue-collar community. |

Special teams win games and when the games start getting important during the season, having a dominant power play can result in a championship. By following these steps you can have a successful power play.
1. Win the face-off- One of the most important things to getting a good start on the man advantage is to win the face-off since you get a face-off in the opposing teams’ offensive zone. By winning the puck back to a teammate allows you to set up into your power play formation, instead of the opposing team clearing it out of the zone, which waste valuable time.
2. Set up into attack formation- There are multiple formations you can run on the man advantage. When you gain control of the puck, everyone has a certain area there entitled too so the power play can run with ease. Having movement with the players will create space for and opportunities to score.
3. Move the puck around- Puck movement is the best way to get the opposing penalty killers running around the zone and eventually will wear them out. This will create more time for the players to make better decisions with the puck. The penalty killers will collapse which will leave the defense open to shoot the puck.
4. Get shots on net- A shot on net is very crucial to having a successful power play. A missed shot could result in the other team clearing the puck and being able to get fresh legs on the ice. The penalty killing team will try to block every shot possible so faking shots and moving the puck for a better shot is very crucial. No shot is a bad shot as long as you have traffic going to the net.
5. Swarm the net- Having one of your players in front of the goaltender is very important; it interferes with the goaltenders vision which makes it harder for the goalie to make a save. Many goals result from a deflection from the player standing in front of the net, so they have more of a responsibility then just screening the goaltender. A shot on net creates a rebound so having players going to the net ready for the rebound will result in pucks in the back of the net.
6. Out work the penalty killers for loose pucks- Penalty killers are usually the hardest, most tenacious players on the team so when there is a loose puck they will do anything to clear the puck down the ice to kill off valuable time. A good power play will out-man the opposing team in the corners and will win the loose puck battles and get it back to a teammate and re-set up the attack.
7. Capitalize on opportunities- Special teams can win hockey games so dominating on the penalty kill and capitalizing on power play opportunities crushes the other team. Even if you don’t score on the man advantage a lot of good things can occur. A lot of momentum is gained off successful power plays and momentum can change at any time.
What is value of Spalding Par-Flite Tournament Model Irons?
I have 2, 4, 5, 7, & 9 irons. These have metal shafts painted to look like wood. Still have the original grips. The irons are a bit sratched up. Are these worth trying to sell, and where would I sell them? I think these are 1950s vintage.
Mass-produced clubs like these are very common and have very little value.
