Wedge Iron
We all have our favorite clubs in the bag, but in order to get really good at golf we need to hit all the clubs more solid. How do we do this? The key lies in the ball position for each club and the shoulder turn.
Ball Position Changes for Each Club- Shorter clubs will have a point in your stance where the club will bottom out and be nearest to the ground if you take a swing. This is where we want the ball to be when we are hitting our golf shots.
So for short irons we want to have the ball in the middle of our stance. This means anything from say a 60 degree wedge to a 9 or 8 iron. You can even have the ball a little back of middle to hit low spinners for the sand wedges.
Mid Irons, or say 8 iron to the 5 iron, will have an optimal ball position to the left of center, but not quite to the inside of the left foot.
Longer Irons and the fairway woods, or the 5 irons and up, will be off the inside of the left foot. This will help you “flatten” out he swing and hit the ball a little more on the up-swing. You are still hitting down on the ball, but it is not as steep as a short iron.
Driver will be off the inside of the left foot, or even further forward.
Shoulder Turn- In order to hit more solid shots, you want to make sure you make a complete shoulder turn on your back swing. It’s easy to forget about this simple move. We often just swing the arms back without completely turning the upper body.
Remembering these two moves will dramatically increase your odds of hitting a solid shot.

Pitching Wedge 160 yards, 5 Iron 175?
I think I may be swinging differently, but I am not sure. How can I really know? Could I be closing the face? Could it be a change of swing? These are the questions I would like answered.
I don’t swing hard at all and I can land it 150 easily. I do not know what blading means. The problem is, i am out hitting a 5 iron with a PW. When I hit with a PW, It is smooth, nice straight path to where I want it to go. With a 5 iron, it is the opposite.
sounds like your blading your wedge… whats the flight path of the ball, if its smooth high and landing soft then your ok, if the ball ends up past your ball mark on the green your not hitting your wedges right, obviously a little roll might occur due to conditions but your PW should have much roll on it. I mean I hit my PW 135, but i can make it go 160 if I wanted to, but thats what my 8 iron is for, 5 iron is my 200 club.
