They lie between the wedge-shaped bone at the bottom of your spine (known as the sacrum) and the pelvic ilium, and are held in place by various muscles and ligaments. When you move your lower body, the sacroiliac joints get twisted and stretched along the pelvic girdle, so they help facilitate pelvic movement.
When these joints get infected, they can cause stabbing pains in the lower back, the buttocks, and even the thighs on occasion. This inflammation can occur when one half of the pelvis is constantly driven backwards and forwards, or at times when the joints get stuck.
While small infections of the sacroiliac joints and associated ligaments are quite common, the more sever forms of sacroiliitis tend to occur more frequently with aging. The main causes of sacroiliitis are degenerative arthritis (also known as osteoarthritis of the spine) which leads to the deterioration of the sacroiliac joints; pregnancy, as it forces the pelvis to stretch to accommodate childbirth; or some form of sudden impact or traumatic injury to the spine or pelvic region. But do not worry: sacroiliitis is treatable, as long as you are sure to visit osteopath as soon as you notice any of its defining symptoms.
The main symptoms of sacroiliac joint inflammation are: – Having restricted hip movement (noticeable by having problems turning over in your bed or turning around) – Having a stiff back after long car journeys (or after extended periods of sitting still), or when waking up in the morning – Experiencing problems bending down – Feeling pain during sexual intercourse – Getting a sharp pain in your thighs when moving your legs a certain way (swinging them out of the car or over the bed)
If you find that you have any of these symptoms, it is important that you go see an osteopath, as they will have an in-depth knowledge of the workings of the sacroiliac joint. Here are some things you can try on your own to try and ease some of the pain: – Try sleeping on your side at night (instead of your back or stomach). – Try placing a pillow in between your knees when sitting or lying down. This should take some pressure of the pelvis. – Take an icepack, wrap it in a damp tea towel, and place it on the inflamed region for periods of 10 minutes on and off for half an hour. Do this for up to three times a day.
While sacroiliac joint inflammation can be a real pain in the back, osteopaths can help cure the problem effectively through a combination of physical therapeutic techniques and anti-inflammatory medication. So as long as you visit your osteopath and nurture your body, you should be fit and healthy for the upcoming holiday season.

How do I increase distance with my Titleist irons?
I would consider myself a pretty decent golfer (6 handicap), and I can hit my driver over 300 yards, but I can’t seem to manage to hit my pitching wedge more than 105 yards! Any ideas as to why? My 7 iron flies about 140 yards, and my 4 iron about 165 yards. I can hit my 7 wood over 200 yards, and I hit my irons straight, but I can’t seem to increase my distance! I have Titleist 805 os clubs with stiff rifled shafts. I have stiff shafts with my woods and there doesn’t seem to be a problem with distance. I am hitting down on the ball, transferring a bit of my weight and turning, but am I missing something?
You probably use your driver too much at the range because you hit it so good. Trust me, I do that and so does everyone else because it makes you feel great about your game if you hit only the clubs that you are confortable with.
When I work on my pitching wedge, I start hitting them very easily. Just get a feel for the club and hit them as if you were chipping off of the fringe. Let your arms swing down and dont hold the club very tightly. My uncle is a pro and he told me to “let the ball get in the way of your swing”. As you start hitting more, bring your backswing more and more back, until you are hitting them from a full swing. You dont have to “Kill it” with a PW, just swing normal and dont rush it. The club has so much loft that it will “go” if you swing easily through it and make good contact.
Also, since you may be hitting your driver so much, you may not have the ball as far back in your stance as it should be when you are hitting the PW. So just move it back in your stance until you start hitting them with the trajectory that you want.
