Womens Clubs

Every golfer has different challenges, and golf training aides are designed to address those challenges. In researching the areas that women golfers have the most difficulties, we learned some surprising things. In addressing the major challenges to women golfers, these challenges are not necessarily impossible to overcome because of physical limitations, but with some knowledge can be dealt with.

The three areas that we feel are the major challenges to women golfers involve putting, lack of driving distance, and general club head speed. With some understanding on what you are trying to accomplish and a bit of training, we think that women golfers can show improvement in all three areas.

1. Putting. This is probably surprising of the major challenges to women golfers to most people, because putting wouldn’t seem to require strength, which is taken for granted as the biggest advantage for men. But in PGA versus LPGA statistics, men are statistically better than women in putting, and women are better in hitting greens in regulation. So why are women poorer at putting? In a subsequent article, I will go into putting at greater length, but two things immediately come to mind: they too often use a putter that is too long for them, and they don’t take putting practice seriously enough. These two factors obviously don’t hold true with professional golfers, but for amateurs if they would get fitted for a putter that is the proper length and work on stroke mechanics on the practice green, we can practically guarantee their scores will drop.

2. Lack of driving distance. Women’s professional golfers are getting more into physical training, and their driving distances have gone up correspondingly. This has probably not happened to a great degree with recreational golfers. The areas to work would be the core, the abs, lower back and hamstrings. At the end of this article we will advise you on where to find some excellent tools to meet these ends. Additionally, learning to harness the power of centrifugal force is an even greater contributor, which has also been described as “let the club do the work”. There are a few training devices on the market that will help you get a “feel” for generating this centrifugal force.

3. No matter which club you use, they all go about the same distance. The cause for this is lack of club head speed, and as a long-time golfer, I have noticed that my long irons have no more distance than my middle irons as club head speed has diminished. Club head speed can be improved with work, but father time always marches on. My answer has been rescue clubs and being refitted with fairway woods. Another tip to answer the challenge of women golfers is improving ball contact. Statistics show that for every half inch you strike the ball from the sweet spot, you lose ten yards. By just becoming more consistent with your ball striking will provide more distance.

These major challenges to women golfers can be overcome by practice. Additionally, women in my observations seem to be more inclined than men to give in to problem shots, like deep rough or sand shots. I’ll admit, there are many times I feel the same, but I know that won’t help me the next time I’m confronted with a similar shot. But then again, I think men could learn from women in not always taking things on the course too seriously. A good topic for another day!

I bought two Womens golf clubs by Accident, but I hit realy well with them?

I’am an amateur Male golfer and I didn’t know the difference between Mens and Womens clubs (okay the color was a darker tone of pink but I didn’t think into it much). I bought a 3 wood and a 5 wood tommy armour, that I have been hitting unbelievably with. I just found out they are Womens’s clubs!! But so what right? I can drive 200 yard plus with the 3 wood off the tee. I guess i like the feel better, I’am 5’7 so I’am not a big guy. Hell they make a Driver version, same as the 3 wood and 5 wood. Maybe I should buy that too. LOL
