Golf Hybrids and Irons
Since the advent of hybrid cubs, golfers now have 3 separate areas of club design: fairway woods, hybrid clubs and long irons; all have ‘crossover’ implications that can make it confusing to decide what clubs the golfer should carry to cover those distances between the 2nd longest hitting wood and the longest iron. The questions is: High loft fairway woods or hybrid clubs? The answer depends on the following:
aa) Does the golfer have confidence in hitting fairway woods high and straight?
bb) Can the golfer hit high loft fairway woods from light rough?
cc) Does the golfer have an early release and sweep the ball off the ground? Early release + sweep the ball is better off with high loft fairway woods. Little later release and hit down on the ball means hybrids.
dd) Does the golfer fight a real mis-direction problem with the driver? If yes, hybrids built to iron lengths are likely more accurate than the longer length of fairway woods. These points should always come to your minds while going after the best golf club sets
Irons are generally used when you are less than 200 yards away from the green. The closer you are to the green, the higher the iron you will use.
aa) Loft is THE number one most influential specification for distance in the irons. This is the main reason that today’s 5-iron has the loft of yesterday’s 3-iron and overall why today’s iron sets are all 2-clubs “stronger” than they used to be. Do you think that high tech iron design is making you hit the ball farther? It’s just the loft decrease the big companies have pushed on golfers over the past 30 years. Otherwise there would be no need to have a gap wedge as an extra wedge offering these days.
These irons form an important component for any custom golf clubs
bb) For the majority of golfers, a 24 degrees or lower is very difficult to generate a high trajectory which will carry the full distance capable from the golfer’s swing speed. Thus it is important for the clubmaker to find the conventional iron with the lowest loft that the golfer can hit high and solid as a key element in advising the golfer for the best set makeup for the iron set.
cc) Start the golfer’s conventional iron set at the lowest loft iron that they can hit relatively high and hit solid. For the clubs with lower lofts than that, choose from hybrids or fairway woods.
dd) The loft spacing between irons is important to ensure a consistent distance difference between the clubs. The slower the golfer’s swing speed, the less this distance separation between irons will be and vice versa. In general never let the loft spacing between irons be less than 3 full degrees or more than 5 full degrees.
e) Putter
Clone golf putters are used on the green and are a golf club with a special purpose: getting the ball into the hole. There are many style of putters: short, belly, long, bent, center-hosel, heel-toe, mallet, and so on.
One of the most significant putter head design features is the Moment of Inertia (MOI) of the putter about its vertical Center of Gravity (CG) axis. The MOI about the vertical CG axis is the design parameter indicating how far the ball will travel when impact occurs off-center as compared to the distance for a putt hit on-center at the same stroke speed. The higher the MOI, the more resistance to twisting on off-center hits.

so this is what i know:
5 wood = 3 hybrid, and it is 19º.
how about
7 wood = ___ hybrid, and is __º?
4 wood = ___ hybrid, and is __º?
3 wood = ___ hybrid, and is __º?
and if there wasnt a hybrid for 7 wood, please tell me..cuz im not sure. i know there are hybrids for 3 and 4 wod but i dont know which hybrid it is. thank you so much!
3 wood= 13°-15°
4 wood= 16°-17°= 2 hybrid
5 wood= 18°- 19°= 3 hybrid
7 wood= 20°- 21°= 3 hybrid
They don’t make a hybrid for a 3 wood and the 5 and 7 wood hybrids are pretty much the same.
