Buying a wood swing set and treating the wood myself. Treat it before or after I put it together?

I’m buying my son a wood swing set from Wal-Mart i a couple weeks. The wood is not treated so I was gonna paint it with the weatherproof stuff. Should I do it before or after I put it together?

before you put it together. why? because if you do it after, there is still going to be untreated wood where the wood meets, is unexposed, etc… the water will still go into the crevices. but, if before, you don’t need to worry about little cracks. Remember to cover ALL surfaces, not just the ones that will be seen.
